In the world of contemporary design, attention to light and material represents a fundamental starting point for creating spaces that are not only aesthetically appealing but also functional and in harmony with the surrounding environment. In this interview, we explore this theme with Luca Maria Gandini from L architetti, a studio distinguished by its pursuit of balance between form and substance through projects that harmoniously integrate into the landscape.
Our studio focuses on both private and public design. We often collaborate with Rai in Turin and Milan for interior renovations, but we also create villas and interior projects for private clients.
There are three partners: myself, Fabrizio Caudana, and Alberto Minero. We also have two collaborators who assist us.
I'd like to talk about Casa Y, a project in the hills of Turin, made of reinforced concrete and corten steel. It consists of two parallelepipeds with a flat roof, a very linear and simple architecture, integrated into the landscape. Before designing, we like to walk around the context and listen to the places.
Yes, we develop interiors with a particular focus on light and shadow, trying to make each space suitable for the client's needs.
At Milu Farm, we worked for a couple, one blind and one French, who decided to settle in Italy. We found agricultural land in the province of Turin and there we created a public part maintaining the structure of the original farmhouse and a more modern private part in concrete, integrating the residence with the surrounding greenery.
Greenery is essential in our projects, especially in villas. We like the greenery to appear as natural as possible, not so much an Italian garden but more of an English garden.
For us, material and light are essential. They are the keywords of our studio, reflecting the importance we place on these elements in all our projects.
