In the vast panorama of architectural design, harmony and balance are central elements in creating spaces that not only meet functional needs but also convey a sense of well-being and beauty. In this interview, we explore this theme with Franca Vaudano from Viabava36, an architectural studio distinguished for its ability to design environments that speak to the heart and mind.
We primarily focus on renovations, both residential and public spaces such as shops and offices, although our main focus remains residential.
I'd like to talk about a villa on the hills of Turin, a villa of considerable size with a steeply sloping garden. We worked for a family who had lived ten years in the East and wanted to make more use of the outdoor space, so we created terracing with an underground pool.
Yes, it was an '80s villa, an energy disaster. We couldn't take advantage of recent incentives like the 110%, so we made significant interventions, such as underfloor heating and window replacement, to bring the building up to new efficiency standards.
I experimented with green walls about twelve years ago, but at the time they were still challenging to maintain. Now the solutions are simpler and require less maintenance. We believe strongly in integrating indoor and outdoor spaces, making these two worlds communicate, creating a round trip journey between indoors and outdoors.
Balance. In every project, both interior and exterior, the environment must be balanced. There shouldn't be excessive colours or elements that disturb. Balance is essential for feeling good in that environment.
