When we talk about Vertical Gardens it is usually difficult to understand the meaning but above all the exact application of the systems and their operation.
With this article we'll go to analyze what is meant by the word Vertical Garden and how they are composed.
Vertical gardens arise from the need to have green-coated surfaces when we haven't horizontal surfaces available. Hence the concept of the Vertical Garden, that is the real vertical cultivation that contrasts the widespread idea of the traditional garden on the ground.
The idea, contrary to what may seem, is not at all simple and wary of those who think that it is sufficient to stack one plant on top of another for having created a "Vertical Garden". The idea is much broader and deeper.
Let's start from the structure, that is the set of anchorage systems and profiles that make our system load-bearing.
The anchoring brackets will be hooked to the aluminum profiles that will be our guidelines for the insertion of our pre-cultivated modules, which will give life and color to the vertical garden. The profiles must be simply hooked to the bracket, it will not be necessary to drill any holes.
The brackets are adjustable and are anchored to the wall with the use of specific plugs. According to the material composition of the wall on which we are anchoring the vertical garden, the screws will be selected.
The aluminum profiles that make up the system are designed to hold clips with press-on fixation, these clips will have the task of supporting the compartment that will house the pre-cultivated module.
Once the structural part has been completed, the modules and the irrigation system are installed step by step, according to a well-defined botanical and structural project. In fact each row of precultivated modules of the vertical garden provides a self-compensating dripline as to have a homogeneous wetting over the entire vertical garden.
The supplied irrigation system consists of a domotic control unit able to connect with smartphones and PCs as to be always informed at any time about any malfunctions of the system as to be able to intervene quickly, limiting damage to the green wall .
The botanical project consists of all the essences that will constitute the vertical garden, not that the drawing will be represented on the vertical green wall. The choice of essences is not purely aesthetic but also depending on the location and exposure of the vertical garden.
The structural project, which follows the botanical project, shows us how to install the pre-cultivated modules as to give shape to the design presented in the botanical project.
Once you have completed the inclusion of the pre-cultivated modules in their respective houses and once the irrigation system is complete, our outdoor vertical garden will be ready to be lived.
Why did I specify for outdoor?
The vertical gardens need a constant and special supply of light during the day, so if we are outside depending on the exposure will be provided and planted certain essences, if instead we were in an indoor environment the garden should be supported with specific lights.
These lights must guarantee at least 1000/1500 lux distributed evenly over the green wall with a complete emission spectrum, ie from the infrared to the ultraviolet, so that the light is as close as possible to the natural light. Lighting cycles must be of 12/14 hours.
Therefore, an indoor vertical garden can be defined complete only when the phytostimulant lighting bodies are also installed.
